Kanda Myojin is within walking distance from Ochanomizu Station and Akihabara Station.

It is one of the most famous shrines in Tokyo. Kanda Myojin enshrines “Daikoku-sama” who is the god of marriage, business prosperity, health, and game luck.

The facilities adjacent to the main shrine have recently been rebuilt that the design is modern and everything is so clean! The building also houses a souvenir shop and cafe that any worshipers can relax and take a good rest in this building.

Check out the “Gachapon” from Kanda Myojin

While I will leave the detailed history and benefits of Kanda Myojin to the guidebooks, what I would like you to check at Kanda Myojin is something called “Gachapon (capsule toys)”

For those who are not familiar with “Gachapon”, please read bellow.

  • “Gachapon” is really popular among men and women of all ages in Japan.
  • “Gachapon” machine looks like a coin candy dispenser.
  • When you insert 100 yen coin(s) and turn a handle, a capsule toy (A small toy is in the capsule) comes out from the coin dispenser machine.
  • There are many kinds of capsule toys.
  • What’s fun is that you don’t know what you are going to get.

At Kanda Myojin, they have their own “Gachapon“.

There are 7 different kinds of miniatures in “Gapachapon” from Kanda Myojin.

For example, there are “Daikoku-sama”, “rake”(Decorated bamboo rakes are believed to bring happiness and prosperity in business.) and “ema” (Ema, The votive panel is a wooden board with a picture that is dedicated to a shrine when praying to a shrine or when the wish had come true.).

These miniatures are made by the famous miniatures creation group named “Kaiyodo” and you can only get these rare miniatures at Kanda Myojin.

And… don’t forget to drink Amazake!

Once you are done with prayer and buying Gachapon, please make sure to drink Amazake. (Japanese sweet drink made from fermented rice).

I have been drinking Amazake from different places, but the one from Kanda Myojin is the best!
